Saftey...Saftey...Saftey...Saftey...Saftey...Saftey...Saftey...Saftey...
This is why it's so very Important to stand behind the Flight stations when flying.
The pilot that was hit put his $25.000US plane in, when his Transmitter hit the ground. I believe his spotter was on his cell phone.
What other mistakes do you notice on this Video???

I saw it happen. The jet that ran into the pilot station had only the nose gear and the left main down and was trying to stall the plane in. The guy on the walkie-talkie is one of the flight line crew.
Unfortunately, the jet that hit the A 10 pilot was very close to the flight line, and the flight line was very close to the runway. It happened so fast that there was no time to react.
A vey bad situation, but the main thing is that nobody was hurt.
The safety fence was very light weight snow fence and only about 2 ft. high. After the incident we all stood way back from the fence when flying. |

As an aside to the above post, although it was a very well run event, there were a couple of things that I found a little odd...
No safety inspections..a lot of parts fell off a lot of planes...mostly wheels(lots) and landing gear doors. A few of the really nice warbirds went in..I don't know if it was thumbs or mech. failure.
pilots meeting was held on the second day of flying...only comment was"don't do nuttin' stupid".
After all is said and done, I had a great time there. |

Dave..Thats cool that you were there. MAAC is alot more stern than AMA when it comes to Saftey, which is great!!
I know when we're at Imac contest in the USA. We camp and park our Trailers right on the flight line. When 42% planes are coming in to land or on their approach the planes are right in your face. It's sort of cool, but is it a accident waiting to happen???
In Canada this would never happen at a MAAC santioned field.
What else do you notice in the Video?? |

There were a lot of people and photographers milling around on the flight line at that point, but it was ok before and after that particular event.
Those A 10's were big, I would guess about 10ft. w/span. Apparantly,Bob Levine who lost the A 10 also lost another big jet a week or so prior to this event due to a mid-air. A very expensive month for him!
Bob's spotter, the one in the red shirt, should have picked up on what as happening, but you know what they say about hindsight.
Not a fire extinguisher in sight |
