"Our Quest For A New Home" ;
My name is Peter Butschek and I am on the "Relocation Committee" for the Radio Control Flying Club of British Columbia, known as "RCFCBC". After 43 years of flying at the same location in Surrey we are now in search of a new home. We are looking for any and all comments, advice and assistance in finding a suitable location where we can continue to enjoy a recreational past time like no other.
Our club consists of approximately 140-160 model aviation enthusiasts from all walks of life. We are a non-profit society registered with the Province of British Columbia. We operate on an annual membership basis and we welcome anyone who wishes to pursue the hobby of radio control model aviation to join us.
We are looking to lease a plot of land of approximately 2.0 acres in size which would contain our grass runway, our pit area (for airplane assembly), a spectator area and, a small parking lot for our vehicles. Adjacent to that land we require approximately 60-100 acres of land to fly over (We can fly over any crop or fallow land as long as we have walking access to it and the ability to retrieve a plane that may land on it).
In our quest for a new home we are doing everything to ensure we meet with the requirements of the local Municipalities, the Township and, the Agricultural Land Commission as well as prospective neighbors and businesses.
We have no impact on the environment! In fact we have found that our presence often attracts wildlife such as eagles, hawks, owls, herons and songbirds. At our previous location, we would often see deer, coyotes, rabbits and raccoons in and around our facilities. Our grass runway, removable shelters, pit tables and chairs are all temporary, fitting the bill as environmentally friendly should it be necessary to return the land to it's original state.
We work with local organizations and charities such as "The Variety Club", "The Make a Wish Foundation" and, "The Muscular Dystrophy Society" to not only provide a source of fund raising through popular RC Air/Mall shows but, to also promote the hobby. Scout groups, senior citizens and students have found our aerial demonstrations entertaining, educational and in some cases, career building (some students have gone on to pursue careers in aviation).
Local communities benefit from our presence in that our members, guests and visitors buy fuel from local gas stations, food from local grocery stores, meals from local restaurants and, utilize other local services as required.
The purpose of my providing this information is to garner comments, feedback and support in our efforts to establish a new flying field in your area. I'd love to hear from you and would be willing to provide a "Power Point" overview of our club for your review.
Call me at "778-238-1161" or, email me at "daddiekat@shaw.ca" and I'll be pleased to send a copy to you. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Peter Butschek,
Relocation Committee, Editor & Webmaster,
